Fitness is about adjustments not jolts. Creating upheavals in your daily routine such as drastic changes in your diet or workout regimen is rarely a good idea and most times unsustainable. It’s tough altering the flow and making conscious, focused choices, but some shock to the system needs to happen. The mindset has to be that this is the new normal, not part of some success montage that takes you from A to Z in 3 minutes. Results take time, and the process needs to be embraced well before the results even become recognizable.
Of course some needle movement must happen so watching the scale go down and/or your body fitting easily in high school clothes will greatly help your self-esteem and fuel efforts. It’s important to get excited about the breakthroughs when you thought change was no longer possible “at this point in my life”. Just know that the not so great days (the stress eating, absentee gym days, the fondue parties) will come and go but the new normal will last a lifetime. The train is not off the rails. You got this!
